Another strike

So, my answer to my question from my last post is No, it hasn't stopped yet. The BART union went on strike at 12am this morning. No agreement has been made and negotiations are still going on. I took the bus this morning, it was a little off schedule but I still got to work earlier than I thought I would. I was only about 10 min late!
I am hoping by Monday negotiations will have come to an end and an agreement will be made by Monday.

Will this ever end?!?!

The train service that I use each day to get to work was on strike a few months ago. The govenor called a 60 day "cooling off" period in order for service to continue for the thousands of users who use BART and also for the unions and BART to come to some sort of agreement. Well, that 60 day period wore off  and they are again wrestling with each other to find an agreement. In my opinion the union is asking TOO much and are crazy but, what can I do? Late at the end of each day at 11:59pm they would announce if they will be going on strike. Since they are still negotiating, people have been getting pretty upset having to wait up late or wake up early in order to know if they have to leave for an earlier commute using the ferry, get a ride, or take the bus. It is quite frustrating! They decided that people needed to know earlier than at midnight to know so they moved it last night to 10pm. We don't know when this agreement will come to an end or if and when they will go on strike again. To make matters worse the bus system also threatened to go on strike because their contracts had also ended around the same time that BART's ended. It was decided that they would wait to make a contract decision until a further date, probably due to this whole BART issue. They too threated to strike yesterday and I started to dream about how I may not have to go to work today since there would be no bus or train service!!! It was sounding a little too good to be true haha! even though I wouldn't get paid for the day. But, as I waited for the bus yesterday after work since BART was delayed for an unrelated issue they announced that the bus systems would not go on strike at least for the next 7 days as they too are trying to negotiate a new contract for their workers and BART union workers must be somewhat happy with how things are going because they have not gone on strike yet.
I actually prefer to take the bus. It does cost a little more, it takes a little longer, and it is about 20-25 min walk to get to the station from my work place but, it is much cleaner and quieter. It also drops me off right in front of my house...who could complain about that?
So, I am hoping that all these people can come to some sort of agreement and things can go back to normal around here. It's a little weird now that I think about it...I am so reliant on these buses and trains to get me to work when back home I used to just rely on my car to get me from place to place. I guess that is what working in a big city looks like ☺.

Mexican Food Monday!

Here we are again at Mexican Food Monday. I can believe it's Monday already, I enjoy my weekend's too much that I'm always sad to find that we are back to another full week of work. We will get to the food in a moment...

Today I have some bad and also exciting news. To start with the exciting, I had an interview at a bilingual private school today. I think it went fairly well but I always think back of all the answers I should have worded differently or how I should have thought of more questions for me to practice in my head. It never fails, I always practice a few common questions but they always seem to choose ones I haven't thought too much about and I get nervous and blank out. So I am really hoping this job is in God's plan, that I impressed my interviewers enough for them to offer the job, and I that I can move out of the position I am at right now. The bad news is that my source of transportation, BART, is on strike and will probably cause me some trouble throughout the week. Look up BART strike if you want to see what's going on around here. CRAZY!

Yesterday afternoon I was walking to meet up with my husband to watch him play soccer and found a Mexican market across the street. I started to think about what I should make for today and stumbled upon these dried flowers to make the very common drink that I love "Agua de Jamaica." I love Jamaica flavor so I thought I should try this week making it. I am going to again use the recipe from Pati's Mexican Table. We actually had her creamy shrimp again tonight and chipotle mashed sweet potatoes for dinner! I am glad so far my Mexican Mondays have worked out, except as I mentioned before we were going to try Rockfish last week and that was not a good choice...I won't probably buy rockfish again, Too Fishy! But, that was not Pati's fault, this was just an experiment to try to like fish so I can make seafood dishes for my seafood loving hubby.

Hope you guys have a great week ahead! I am visiting back home for a short visit the end of this week to celebrate my Mom's birthday. As a bonus it will be July 4th and I get to see some family that I haven't seen for 3 years. I'm also pretty excited to spend a few days with my immediate family who I miss. I'm just sad my husband couldn't take time off to go with me. :(
